1 Day Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is NUMBER 1:
 
#1: The Empire Strikes Back
 
Surprise, surprise. I think this is most everyone’s favorite. I can’t help pick this as my favorite. The world is already established, so you don’t need to get to know all of the characters. The budget is bigger, so more sets and effects. There is more humor, more action, more everything. Not to mention Yoda, Lando and Boba Fett (not dying from a burp joke). Star Wars is what made me sit up and take notice. Empire is what made me love this universe.
 
Thanks to everyone for taking this journey with me on the road to The Force Awakens. There might be some honorable mentions and follow-ups to this list in the weeks to come. I hope you all enjoy The Force Awakens. And, as always, May The Force Be With You!!!

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is the Top 10:
 
#1.5: Star Wars: A New Hope
 
[I have a confession to make: I am bad at math. So here we are at what should be #1, BUT, not only did I come up a day short, but it threw the list off as well. #1 should have been on Thursday, as it will be now. So, here is #1.5]
 
This is the one that started it all (obviously). I was 5 years old when it came out and little did I know that it would change my life forever. It would shape the toys I play with. It would shape how I spent recess. It would guide my comic book reading. In fact, it would guide my future career(s). Star Wars is what made me want to work in the film industry. I wasn’t sure what I had just seen at the time, but I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I also credit it for my love of pop culture, and without it, Brian’s Comics may not have existed.
 
From the opening fly-over of the Star Destroyer, to the Cantina, to the destruction of the Death Star, these scenes and images moved me and are forever burned on my brain. More than the prequels, I feel that The Force Awakens will bring back those childhood memories.

2 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is the Top 10:
 
 
This is one of my favorite places on Earth. It is the Disneyland for Star Wars fans. Rancho Obi-Wan is officially the world’s largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia. And it’s located here in Sonoma County. Their mission is “to serve the public through the collection, conservation, exhibition and interpretation of Star Wars memorabilia and artifacts.” And let me tell you, they succeed…and then some. I have been to several events at the Rancho and taken the tour 3 or 4 times, and each time has been amazing. The owner is Steve Sansweet, who has spent years collecting and writing about Star Wars. He even worked for Lucasfilm as Director of Specialty Marketing at Lucasfilm, and later changed to Director of Content Management and head of Fan Relations. He is one of the nicest and most passionate people I have ever met. In fact, everyone I have met through Rancho Obi-Wan is the same, from Anne Neumann, the Vice President and General Manager on down. I love all the folks I have had the privilege meeting and gotten to know as friends.
 
But let’s talk about the collection. If you can imagine ANYTHING related to Star Wars, it is there. I thought I knew a lot about Star Wars before first going there. After about a half hour, I realized what I knew didn’t scratch the surface. From bootleg action figures to actual pieces of the Death Star from Star Wars, this place has it all. Heck, some of the items on this list are not only from Rancho Obi-Wan, but I wouldn’t have even know existed if it wasn’t for them. I cannot speak highly enough about this place. It has a special place in my heart and means a lot to me. If you are any kind of Star Wars fan, your journey is not complete until you visit them.
