17 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#17: The Millennium Falcon

“17, huh? Okay, you’ve got yourself a ship.” What’s not to love about the fastest hunk o’ junk in the galaxy? Once owned by Lando Calrissian, won from him by Han Solo, this stock light freighter has helped the Rebellion more times than you can imagine. And I am so glad to see her in The Force Awakens. The original design looked too much like Eagle 1 from Space 1999, so they altered it to resemble George Lucas’ favorite food: a hamburger. I, for one, am glad they changed it. It’s iconic shape will go down as one of the best space ships ever designed.

18 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#18: The Prequels

I have already listed Episode 1 on here, so let’s not forget Episodes 2 and 3. You may call them “flawed”, or “not what I was expecting” or whatever…they are still Star Wars. Yes, they do have a different feel to them, but they are a completely different time period, not only in the film world, but in reality. Plus, they were directed all by the same person (even though the original trilogy was all “guided” by Lucas). The key to watching these movies it to view it through the same eyes you saw the original movies. Remember the magic they brought to you. Think of the awe they inspired. No, they are not perfect, but no movie is…except Raiders of the Lost Ark.

19 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

If you want to know about ALL of the more than 2,500 Star Wars action figures from the last 35 years, look no further. Compiled by Stephen Sansweet, this book is filled with photographs and information on every figure you can think of. How many different Luke Skywalker’s are there? Different versions of Darth Vader? It’s all in here.

20 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#20: Star Wars Arcade Game

Many a quarter was spent trying to destroy the Death Star. This is one of my all time favorite arcade games, and is one of the simplest. It’s all vector graphics, so it’s all point and line based game play. But I could spend hours playing this game. Never played much of the Empire Strikes Back version of this game. I would love to have one of these for the shop. Maybe one day…

23-22 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#23-22: Biggs Darklighter and Jek Porkins

Red Three and Red Six. Heroes of the Battle of Yavin. Without these two, the assault on the Death Star may not have turned out as it did. Both were shot down in the same battle. I have always wondered where Porkins would have gone when Biggs yelled “eject!”

24 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:
#24: The Empireflex Camera

And speaking of behind-the-scenes of Star Wars, this is an awesome piece of film history. As I’ve said before, in one of my former lives, I worked in the film industry. I did a lot of technical work with camera for movies and TV. I had heard about the camera Industrial Light and Magic had made called the Empireflex. It was specially made for filming high speed special effect shots. From what I have found, (and I’m going to get technical here) it is a 4 perf Mitchell Vista Vision camera converted to 8 perf and adapted to take Arri magazine. Basically what that means is it is the greatest Frankenstein’s monster of movie cameras. I had the chance to see this camera in person, and WOW is it amazing. The technical geniuses at ILM really know their stuff.
