61 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#61: The Force Unleashed video game

Any game where you play a Jedi, and you use your Force power to pull a Star Destroyer out of the sky, is a good game. In the game you play Darth Vader’s secret apprentice Starkiller. You are going around the galaxy on different missions, but ultimately your mission is to kill the Emperor. It is a great game, but in the end, it’s all about pulling a Star Destroyer down with the Force.

62 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#62: Hardware Wars

This may well be the very first fan film parody of Star Wars. I think I first saw it on SELECT TV or ON TV (precursors to HBO and Showtime). It was made for $8000 and has grossed more than $1,000,000, making it one of the most profitable short films of all time. Kids, you may have to ask your parents what some of the appliances in the movie are.

#63: Han, Chewie and Leia t-shirt

Jennifer bought this shirt for me years ago in London. It is pretty funny (and a little bit out there). It’s one of my favorites and always gets a lot of comments when I wear it.

64 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#64: SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back

This TV special originally aired back in 1980, and I hadn’t seen it since (thank the Maker for YouTube).  It takes you behind the scenes of The Empire Strikes Back and shows you how the film crew made the magic.  I could watch models blowing up and blue screen (before it was green screen) shots all day long.  I miss practical effects and am glad that there is a shift back to this type of film making.

65 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#65: Ugnaught action figure

One word: Ugnaught.

The best thing about this little guy is that he didn’t come with a weapon. He came with a briefcase. Or was it his lunch box? Maybe it was his lunchbox because he is wearing a bib.

#66: The Yub Nub Song from Return of the Jedi

In my opinion, this is one of the ways the Special Edition versions got it wrong. Like the Ewoks or not, this was the celebration song at the end of Return of the Jedi that closed out the trilogy. Is it corny? Yes. Is it a happy note to end the trilogy? Yes. This song embodies the celebration of the end of the Empire. We don’t need to see the fireworks on other planets. It’s all about right here, right now. This song makes me happy and I will admit, I get a bit choked up at the end when the ghosts of Jedi past appear (OLD Anakin Sebastian Stan, not Hayden Christensen). I hope when they release the original theatrical versions on DVD (and they WILL!!!) this is back in there.

Side note: it also makes me chuckle because someone I used to work with would sing this song out loud from time to time.

67 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#67: Huffy ride-on Speeder Bike pedal car

This was a holy grail of toys. Made by Huffy in 1983, it was never available as a retail item, only as a giveaway at department stores. I knew it existed at the time, but never knew how to get one. At this point, I would probably break it, but it would still be fun to ride. Maybe I’ll have to make one myself!

#68: Treasures of Rancho Obi-Wan volume 1 – Inspired by the Force: Star Wars Fan Artifacts & Art

I had to choose a book for Star Wars Reads Day and this is a great one. This book by Stephen Sansweet and Anne Neumann is a great sample of some of the fan art and artifacts from Rancho Obi-Wan (the worlds largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia right here in Sonoma County!). It is packed with photos of different pieces from the museum with explanations of where they came from and who made them. (and, if you look really close, you might find me in it)
