69 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#69: E.T. appears in The Phantom Menace

This is pretty funny. Easier to find than R2 and 3P0 in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but still something you won’t see right away. This video will point our right where they are. If “Yoda” can make a cameo in E.T., then why not the other way around?

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#70: The Making of Star Wars (1977)

This special originally aired on ABC in 1977. It is hosted by C-3P0 and R2-D2, and narrated William Conrad (Cannon himself!!!). I remember watching it when it first aired, and again several years ago when I ordered the VHS tape through some cereal giveaway. It is great to see some of the behind the scenes footage. It is also fun to watch the silly banter between the “robots” R2 and 3P0.

#71: 1976 Promo Poster by Howard Chaykin

This probably should be further down on the list, but in honor of Howard Chaykin’s birthday today, I decided to go for it. It is pretty amazing, and is the first promotional poster for Star Wars.

72 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#72: The Star Wars (Lucas Draft) comic book series

This was a comic book series that came out last year based on the rough draft screenplay of Star Wars. It was a 9 issue run from Dark Horse Comics. At first, it was a little tough to read. Knowing the characters so well, it was a little confusing to read them with different names and doing different things. There was still a Skywalker, but also a Starkiller. And Han Solo was a giant green monster that looked like Swamp Thing. But it was great and a fun alternate take on the what could have been the Star Wars universe.

73 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:
#73: Yoda vs. Count Dooku from Attack of the Clones

Finally, we get to see Yoda in action. After having heard his wisdom and seen his training, we now get to see the Jedi Master in action. It is a lot of fun to see our pint-size Jedi take on the Sith Lord. After all, we shouldn’t judge him by his size, should we?

74 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#74: R5-D4

An unsung “hero” of the Star Wars legacy, this little droid did a lot with really doing anything at all. R5 was the orange and white droid that Luke bought instead of R2-D2, but blew up when walking away from the Jawas. If it wasn’t for R5 having a “bad motivator”, Luke would never have seen the message from Princess Leia inside of R2-D2. Alternatively, there was a Star Wars comic book story in which R5-D4 was actually Skippy the Jedi Droid. Sensing that Luke needed to buy R2 instead, “Skippy” blew himself up using the Force. Either way, R5 did his part in helping to save the universe.

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#75: Brian Wilson in Carbonite (in honor of Star Wars day at AT&T Park today)

As a San Francisco Giants fan this was a pretty cool game day giveaway. It is three sided, one with Han Solo in carbonite, one with former pitcher Brian Wilson in carbonite and one with the Giant/Star Wars logo. Brian Wilson is no longer with the team, but he will always remain in carbonite on my shelf.
