84 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. Here is today’s entry:

#84: Lobot action figure

Who doesn’t love Lobot??? He’s the right hand man of Lando, gets to live in Cloud City and probably gets great reception with that thing on his head. And to top it all off, his best “line” in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was just a sideways glance. (He never spoke a word, by the way) He is even wearing a puffy shirt! Although, to be honest, I never knew what to do with him when I was playing with the figures. He usually just rode shotgun in the Twin Pod Cloud Car. So everyone grab your headphones, put them on the back of your head and be Lobot for the rest of the day.

85 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days leading up to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars.  Here is today’s entry:

#85: Rogue Squadron for N64

I played the heck out of this game (except for when I was playing GOLDEN EYE).  This game is so much fun, it is the reason I kept my N64 (that and GOLDEN EYE).  One of the best parts about it was the variety of ships you could choose from, including the X-Wing, Y-Wing and A-Wing.  Plus, there were secret ships you could unlock like the Millennium Falcon, TIE Interceptor and even a 1969 Buick Electra (the designers car).  My favorite secret unlockable ship was the Naboo Starfighter from Episode I.  This game came out in December 1998, 6 months BEFORE Episode I came out.  The developers hide the ship and released the code to unlock it after the movie came out.  Pretty awesome.  Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must head home and hook up my N64.

86 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens in theaters, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. From now until December 18, 2015 I will be posting one of my favorite things from the Star Wars universe. It can be from the movies, comic books or anything Star Wars related. Here is today’s entry:

#86: Marvel Star Wars comic, issue #7 (2015)

This is my favorite issue so far of the Jason Aaron Star Wars run. It is a standalone issue, featuring a flashback story about Obi-Wan. It is basically “Unforgiven” set in the Star Wars universe. And who wouldn’t want those two things mashed together?

87 Days Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

In the 100 days until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens in theaters, I am counting down my 100 favorite things about Star Wars. From now until December 18, 2015 I will be posting one of my favorite things from the Star Wars universe. It can be from the movies, comic books or anything Star Wars related. Here is today’s entry:

#87: Attack of the Clones asteroid chase

This scene it a lot of fun and, in my opinion, has some of the best sound design work in the entire saga. Watch the scene and ignore the dialogue. Just listen to the sound effects. Plus, it’s a Jedi/bounty hunter showdown, which is something we didn’t get enough of in the movies

#88: “Blue Stars” bootleg action figure

Everyone remembers these guys, right? You know…the Blue Stars! That scene where….the…er…..???

There is some really great bootleg Star Wars merchandise out there. The figures are the best, in my opinion. (I don’t have any in my collection, but have been exposed to a bunch of them through Rancho Obi-Wan)

#89: The Story of Star Wars cassette

Think back to a time before VHS. (Kids, ask your parents what that means) The Story of Star Wars was a storybook style re-telling of Star Wars. It wasn’t one of the “turn the page when you hear R2-D2 beep” type of book. This one used the actual audio from the movie, with a narrator explaining the visuals. My brother had this tape and we would listen to it over and over again. And now, behold the power of the internet! Here it is on YouTube. Enjoy.

#90: Vintage action figure commercials

This is a dangerous rabbit hole. Whatever you do, don’t go to YouTube and search for Star Wars action figure commercials…unless you have a few hours to spare.

91 Day Until STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Who knew the theme had words? Bill Murray did. And now it’s going to be in your head for the rest of the day.
