Greetings Fankind! I have returned from the DC Comics Roadshow for retailers with news of what is coming down the line. Starting in April and continuing through May, we will see CONVERGENCE, an 8-part series beginning with issue #0 on April 1st. There will be 40 different 2 part mini-series to accompany the main series. Plus, the DC Comics Free Comic Book Day issue will tie directly into the event! All other DC titles will be on hold until June.

Beginning June 3rd, the DC Comics line of comic books will consist of 24 brand-new series that will begin at issue number one, as well as 25 on-going, bestselling fan favorite series that will continue without a break in the issue numbering. The total number of comics in the DCU will be 49, with additional new titles debuting throughout the year.

Attention Fankind: we will be opening late tomorrow, Friday February 6 at 12:30 pm. Sorry for any inconvenience. See you then!

Through the month of February, we’re running a contest: show YOUR love of Brian’s Comics! You might, for example, make a video, or take a photo of yourself sporting Brian’s Comics gear, or bring a friend who’s never been to the shop in for visit, or write a review of the shop. Be creative (and legal)! You may enter as many times as you like.

Grand prize winner gets to take a tour of Rancho Obi-Wan with Brian. Runners up get to ride in our float in the Butter and Eggs Parade [hint: building a float for us might ensure a win smile emoticon ]. All entries must be submitted by store closing (6 p.m.) on Saturday, February 28th.

Happy Wednesday Fankind! Well, Jonathan Hickman knocks another one out of the park with his new book THE DYING AND THE DEAD. If you are a fan of EAST OF WEST or THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS, this is the new book for you. “A murder at a wedding reveals a fifty year-old secret. At great cost, a man with a dying wife is given the opportunity to save her. A lost tribe is reborn in another time. Seemingly disparate events that force relics from the Greatest Generation to come together for one last hurrah.” I highly recommend this book, but like most Hickman, it will take a few issues to understand what is going on. Just a heads up Fankind: Brian’s Comics will be CLOSED tomorrow, Thursday Jan. 8. We will be attending Image Expo 2015 in the city to find out all about the new books coming out this year!  But fear not!  We will be open again on Friday at our normal time.

• Saturday, January 3 – Artist of FF and co-creator of EAST OF WEST and HOWTOONS Nick Dragotta will be signing and sketching in-store from 12 noon to 3 pm. Come on by, get a sketch, and ask him about his work.

• Thursday, January 8 – Image Expo 2015 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. This is one of Brian’s favorite events, which offers fans unprecedented access to the creators behind their favorite comic books, exclusive autograph sessions, and comic-focused programming. • Wednesday, January 14 – STAR WARS #1 Release! Come help celebrate the release of Marvel Comics Star Wars #1. We will have the new #1 in stock, plus variants and a few other surprises!  Costumes are encouraged, or just wear something Star Wars-themed to embrace the spirit of the Force.

• Saturday, January 17 – Petaluma’s first comic convention, LumaCON at Hertzog Hall at the Petaluma-Sonoma Fairgrounds. Join Brian’s Comics in celebrating comics, graphic novels, popular culture, and fandom, too. Meet authors and illustrators, and try your hand at crafts and live action role play.  There will be panel interviews and discussions about careers in illustration and the fandom world, displays of young artists’ work, activities, food, and more! lumacon.weebly.com

• Sunday, January 18 – Brian’s Comics Second Anniversary!!! Join us at the shop as we enter the terrible two’s.  ALL #2’s (issues, volumes, etc.) will be on sale, and, as is our “tradition,” there will be fantastic raffle prizes!
